SPRING IN RETHYMNO

Spring in Rethymno

Think Spring!

Springtime on the Greek island of Crete is an ideal time to visit the charming city of Rethymno.

With sunny skies and warm temperatures often exceeding 25°C (77°F), the spring weather rivals summer conditions.

The peak spring month is May when the Cretan countryside explodes with colorful wildflowers blanketing the rolling hills in vibrant greens and reds. Against the bright blue skies, these natural landscapes are extraordinarily beautiful.

Since it's the beginning of summer tourism, many sites and businesses are open before the Greek Orthodox Easter on May 5th, 2024.

This allows visitors to experience authentic Cretan culture and traditions around Easter.

One of the most striking spring wildflowers is the vibrant red anemone, which paints the landscape in brilliant red hues.  Along the roadsides and rocky areas, you'll find yellow daisies adding a sunny splash of color. You'll discover an abundance of blue iris, local orchids, and the pompon-like crimson. Crete's indigenous Cretan ebony grows small yellow wildflowers among its bright green leaves.

For wildflower enthusiasts, Rethymno offers an unparalleled opportunity to immerse yourself in nature's vibrant palette. Let the winding hiking paths guide you through this wonderland of colors, fragrances, and floral diversity.

With over 1,800 different plant species, you'll encounter exotic blooms at every turn when exploring Crete's great outdoors.
