Floats brighten Rethymno Carnival decoration
Due to Covid restrictions, the Rethymno Carnival eliminates 2022 festivities that anyone recalls from the previous successful years to decoration and a team party.
Every year after the floats finish the parade having all the attention, they are kept so the municipality of Rethymno with the Carnival Comity use them for next year's public decoration and exposure of our town.
There is also storefront decoration with businesses wishing to participate and to have their locations take part. It’s so important to see people of all ages get involved with our community spending a few joyous days decorating the city with floats
Many people are associated with float design & development and are excited to showcase the unique design, construction, and decoration.
We all know that Rethymno carnival is making a difference since most of the floats are made of recycled material and are all about recycling.
During float construction, the atmosphere is so cheery and people are so enthusiastic about it. It's such a blend of volunteerism and fun that come together in every float and in every participated team. The floats are just a handful of showcases at the parade that are designed, built, and decorated entirely by volunteers
This year local business owners are “cautiously optimistic” that people will still show up, and business will be good. They are encouraged that stores and restaurants are all open this winter, unlike last year.
Despite the cancelation of carnival festivities, there will be limited activities in order to give people something to smile about, such as the party at Queens Room on March 3rd. Especially nowadays, when there’s not a lot to smile about.
For many, the return of the Rethymno carnival activities will be seen as a cheerful time after the two painful pandemic years.
