Rethymno Hosted Exciting Nikiforios Run 2024
Last week, the municipality of Rethymno organized the exciting Nikiforios Run 2024.
This big sports event included running races, biking, and recreational walking through the beautiful villages and nature areas around Rethymno.
The 9th annual Nikiforios Run on April 21st was a huge success with many athletes participating.
The races have become a yearly tradition that promotes the Rethymno area, the values of sports and fair play, and the welcoming spirit of the local villagers.
The races were organized by the Rethymno Sports Department, Rethymno Health Runners, the Region of Crete, local cultural clubs, and more.
There were distances of 26km, 10km, and 5.3km for running and walking, plus a bike ride and children's races too.
Top runners included Ioannis Oikonomakis, Georgios Koutroulis and Pantelis Kalpaxis for men's 26km, and Rita Mountaki, Irini Fournaraki, and Helen Galeraki for women's 26km. Other winners were listed for the 10km and 5.3km events.
