Honouring soprano Maria Callas
The Crete Festival, Saturday 17 June, at 20:30 p.m., at Fortezza, pays tribute to the renowned soprano Maria Callas. In honor of her memory and as a dedication to the victims of the tragic shipwreck of migrants off Pylos, a special concert featuring opera excerpts will take place.
To commemorate Maria Callas' 100th birth anniversary, the country's leading orchestra will collaborate with the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Crete. Together, they will present a captivating program comprising beloved opera excerpts. The repertoire will include orchestral pieces, arias, and duets from iconic works such as Bizet's Carmen, Puccini's Tosca, and Verdi's Traviata. Accompanying them will be soprano Vasiliki Karagianni and tenor Dimitris Paksoglou, under the musical direction of Miltos Loyiadis.
This concert serves as the opening event of the Crete Festival is opened to the public.
