ALL YEAR ROUND
In the last years, Rethymno has worked towards becoming a premier destination for sports and sports tourism by hosting some big sporting events such as Socca World Cup 2019, ISOMAN Triathlon, OCEANMAN, and many more. Rethymno also continues to host many annual sporting events such as City Running, Beach Running, Arkadia Running, Nikiforios Running, and many cycling events.
We look forward to achieving more sports success within local and international tournaments in the future. The municipality of Rethymno works and invests in sports tourism by developing or improving sports facilities and accessibility to appeal to sports fans, enthusiasts, and athletes.
TRIMORE ISOMAN
The Rethymno Trimore ISOMAN is an athletic and innovative event in the field of sports. It started for the first time in 2019, with a huge response, not only from athletes of the city but also from athletes from all over Greece, testing their endurance and limits in the beautiful and picturesque Rethymno. This is a three-day, entertaining sports event that takes place in September. The race includes an Olympic and half Olympic Trimore distance with swimming, running, and cycling in the city of Rethymno within predetermined routes.
Thus the city of Rethymno becomes the ideal playground for athletes to experience unique experiences by testing their limits. The Trimore also includes a series of races specially designed for children, and the city organizes other recreational and cultural activities.

BEACH RUNNING
For many consecutive years, a different road race has been held on the beach of Rethymno, as the participants run on the beach in the center of the city. The route starts from the Delfini building and ends there again. It includes an 800-meter road race for children and a 5,000-meter race for athletes and non-athletes. It is a magical route on the beautiful sandy beach of Rethymno, where everyone can participate for free.

CITY RUNNING
Run-Walk-Cross My Town
For many years, on May 14th, the city run of Rethymno allows young and old people to cross known parts of our city in a different way. This is a celebration, where all the streets of the city are closed, so there is no car traffic and the participants can run safely.
Starting and finishing point is Agnostou Square. It gives participants the opportunity to run through Arkadiou, Melisinou, Gerakari street, etc. with races of 10,000 and 5,000 meters for adults and a children’s race of 1000 meters. There is a symbolic participation fee for each participant and a part of the proceeds is given to charity.
RECREATION CYCLING
Rethymno is a bike-friendly city with several bicycle paths throughout the city, promoting the sustainable development of our city. Rethymno won the European Prize in 2020 for "Safe Walking-Safe Cycling" among 3,135 cities that took part in the competition.
For this reason, the cycling club "Atlas" is quite active with its actions. It was founded in 1986 and the cycling academy was first started in 2010 for children from 7-18 years old. These kids over the years will staff the team's racing department. Rethymno cycling club aims to educate students on how to use bikes properly with the right traffic education so that everyone remains safe. Also, the best cyclists are sent to cycling championships throughout Greece. Various races take place in the city or in nearby villages of Rethymno, such as in 2020 at the Apostolous village of Rethymno.
