The Contemporary Art Museum of Crete invites you to explore a new group exhibition that connects fashion and modern art. Titled WHAT YOU WEAR IS WHAT YOU ARE, this show features the work of 29 artists and designers from Greece and around the world.
A special part of the exhibition honors Sophia Kokosalaki, the beloved fashion designer from Rethymno who gained international recognition for her unique creations. On display will be 24 of her garments, along with jewellery and sketches from her family's private archive. Fashion historian Méty Tsoukátou has written the tribute text.
The exhibition looks at how clothing shapes our identity and reflects the times we live in. From ancient history to the present, what we wear has always said something about who we are, both personally and socially.
Through paintings, installations, and objects, the exhibition shows how fashion and contemporary art inspire each other. Even when there are no clothes on display, the idea of style and self-expression is always present.
Visitors will see works from well-known museums, private collectors, and the artists themselves. A special printed catalogue will be available in both Greek and English, including photos and comments from the artists.
