LANDSCAPE+ Photography exhibition
LANDSCAPE+, a Fresh Look at Photography in Rethymno
May 22, 2025 – June 30, 2025
Discover a captivating photography exhibition, "LANDSCAPE+", at the north wall outside the Municipal Garden in Rethymno!
This unique show, organized by the School of Photography's Rethymno Group, invites you to explore the concept of landscape through a new lens.
Curated by Manolis Karatarakis, "LANDSCAPE+" delves into the evolving relationship between humans and their environment. As Karatarakis notes, landscapes have always reflected human perspectives, whether as a place of refuge, a battleground, or an idealized vision. In today's complex world, with its information overload, environmental concerns, and societal shifts, this exhibition prompts us to reconsider what "landscape" truly means. What do we include, and what do we exclude? How do we interpret it, and what does it reveal to us?
"LANDSCAPE+" goes beyond simply depicting scenery. It’s a collective journey where each artist maintains their unique style and vision, resulting in a rich and varied collection of works. The common thread uniting these diverse approaches is the "plus" – an added element, an intervention, a moment of disruption or reinterpretation. This "plus" challenges expectations, revitalizes our perception, and transforms our connection to the depicted space.
Each photograph acts as a catalyst for thought, inviting viewers to look deeper, to pause, and to engage with the landscape not as a static image, but as an open question. These are not just representations; they are calls to action, encouraging internal and ideological exploration.
