Tradition & Taste Today!

Join us at the Cretan Diet Festival for a journey into Crete's culinary heritage. At the Main Stage (7:15 PM), the Agri-Food Partnership of the Region of Crete invites you to "Kneading Tradition, Flavors, Memories & Values from Crete." Learn the secrets of making authentic Cretan rusks (paximadi) in an interactive workshop, and enjoy free tastings! It's open to all ages. For the younger crowd, the Kids' Zone (7:15 PM) offers "Kneading the World!" (sensory play with dough) and "Stories on a Plate" (mythology and art). End your evening with traditional Cretan music by the "Tzanidaki" Folklore Group and a moving concert by Pavlos Melis Kallitsounakis and Valentina Anastasopoulou, celebrating beloved Greek singers Nikos Xylouris and Dimitris Mitropanos.

Cretan Diet Festival 2025 – A Celebration of Taste, Culture & Tradition

The Cretan Diet Festival is one of Rethymno’s most beloved summer events, bringing together the rich flavors, traditions, and creativity of Crete. Every evening, the heart of the city transforms into a lively meeting place for food lovers, culture enthusiasts, and families of all ages.

At the center of the festival are the island’s famous local products. From extra virgin olive oil, cheeses, and rusks to wine, tsikoudia, herbs, pomegranates, and natural cosmetics—visitors can explore a wide range of high-quality goods, all made in Crete.

Guests can sample traditional delicacies, enjoy free tastings, and watch live cooking demonstrations with fresh, local ingredients. Each day also features cultural performances, traditional music, and interactive activities that reflect the spirit of Crete. There are also hands-on workshops, children’s activities, and folklore shows, offering fun for all ages.

This festival is more than just a food fair—it’s a tribute to the people behind the products. It supports small producers, promotes sustainable trade, and helps connect local businesses with new markets. Organized in collaboration with the Region of Crete, Municipality of Rethymno and the Chamber of Commerce, the event highlights the strong community spirit that makes Rethymno a special place to visit.

City of Rethymno

You are invited to travel to areas, which are perhaps still unknown to the majority, and which are sometimes remote, but always magical and magnificent throughout the seasons. We recommend our visitors to see our picturesque villages through the eyes of the soul, try the Cretan cuisine, our wine and “tsikoudia”, participate in our revelries and festivities, but most importantly get to know our soul, our hospitality, the safe, untouched interior of the region, the other Rethymno.
