Rethymno is grateful for its loyal visitors who keep coming back, not just once, but again and again. Repeaters are our strength, and we cherish the relationships of appreciation, friendship, and love they have built with our town and its people.
This year, on World Tourism Day, the Rethymno municipality and the Hoteliers Association are honoring those of you who have made Rethymno their home away from home. Our special events spanned two days, starting on Tuesday and ending with a traditional award ceremony at the House of Culture on Wednesday.
We want to showcase the beauty, sustainability, and love for nature that define Rethymno as their favorite tourist place, their second home. A place where nature, history and tourism live in harmony.
This year's World Tourism Day theme is "Tourism and green investment," and Rethymno proudly boasts its efforts to preserve nature and promote eco-friendly, sustainable tourism. We're part of the many European programs, Civitas Destinations, Castwater for Water Management, PLASTECO, Meddea, which focus on sustainable development, setting an example for responsible travel.
Rethymno is proud to be recognized as a Bike-Friendly Destination, encouraging cycling as an eco-friendly way to explore our town with dedicated bike lanes and routes.
We're also serious about water conservation. Our advanced water management system, like many other Green projects, pumps water from the Potami reservoir, meeting current and future needs while preserving water resources.
But what truly makes Rethymno unique is our commitment to green investments. We support eco-friendly businesses and have earned distinctions like the Blue Flag and Green Key for our efforts.
Our goal is to create exciting and adventurous experiences for you, filled with joy and wonder.
Rethymno is a shining example of a tourist destination that respects nature and invests in green practices. We hope you appreciate the natural wonders here and our dedication to preserving them for future generations.
