In 2015 Rethymno was awarded with the Choice Destination Award from TripAdvisor.TripAdvisor, the world’s largest travel site, announced the results of its 2015 Travellers’ Choice Destinations Awards, honoring the top destinations in the world, which are Europe and Greece as decided by millions of travelers.

Rethymno was given the prize of the Best City Awards 2016 - Livable City- for its efforts to combine its major cultural events with sustainable tourism development.

In 2013 the EUROPEAN ENERGY AWARD was granted to the Municipality of Rethymno for its applied policies in energy saving and climate protection.

GREEK TRAVEL AWARDS is the first important initiative for the international promotion and rewarding of Greek tourist businesses and destinations in the Scandinavian market. The voting procedure provided for 50% of the votes from the public (Sweden, Norway and Denmark) and the remaining 50% from the jury members.
