Tsagarakis Gerasimos

[Music] - Tsagarakis Gerasimos, UDU DANCES (Robert J. Damm) - [09.04.2020]

The art piece Dance for UDU was written to bring the udu as a solo instrument in front of the audience in concert venues, giving it another dimension beyond the setting of the purely traditional music of its countries of origin. This suite is inspired by three unique musical traditions, each of which reflects a variety of musical styles:

1. Latin - American dance 2/4 and 4/4 It consists of rhythmic bands found in Cuban mambo and bolero music, calypso music from the Caribbean and Brazilian samba.

2. Oriental dance 7/8 Includes motifs such as dawr hindi which are intertwined with the tradition of Turkey and many Arab countries.

3. Western African dance 6/8 It is characterized by rhythmic patterns interwoven with the tradition of the dances of the Ewe tribe such as the anchovy and the atsia, which are also found in various Afro-Cuban rhythms such as baby and nanigo.

City of Rethymno

You are invited to travel to areas, which are perhaps still unknown to the majority, and which are sometimes remote, but always magical and magnificent throughout the seasons. We recommend our visitors to see our picturesque villages through the eyes of the soul, try the Cretan cuisine, our wine and “tsikoudia”, participate in our revelries and festivities, but most importantly get to know our soul, our hospitality, the safe, untouched interior of the region, the other Rethymno.
