As November unfolds in Rethymno, our calendar fills with enriching cultural events while nature paints the perfect backdrop.

Right now, you can experience "15 Traces of Rethymno," a contemporary art exhibition showcasing local artists' interpretations of our beloved city, or explore "Pro Femina - A Celebration of Women in Art" at our galleries.

The ongoing "Wheels of Inspiration" exhibition perfectly captures our city's growing cycling culture, inspiring visitors to explore our region on two wheels.

Fall Adventures in Rethymno

Authentic Experiences in Perfect Weather

Imagine crystal-clear days where summer's warmth lingers into November, but the crowds have gone home. This is fall in Rethymno, perhaps our most enchanting season. With temperatures hovering around a pleasant 20°C (68°F), you can explore our Venetian harbor, cycle through ancient villages, and discover hidden trails - all under brilliant blue skies.

While the summer crowds have departed, our cultural life flourishes.

This month, we've commemorated significant historical and sports events like the Holocaust of Arkadi Monastery, connecting visitors with our rich heritage.

The recent World Wine Tourism Day celebrations opened the doors of local wineries, offering a taste of Cretan wine culture that continues throughout the season.

Nature's Invitation

Fall has temperatures perfect for outdoor activities so you can explore our countryside.

Cycle from our historic lighthouse to mountain villages, where traditional tavernas serve seasonal specialties.

The same paths that hosted our recent 84th Arkadi Sports Event are yours to discover, whether on foot or by bike.

Each trail offers a new perspective on our diverse landscape, from coastal routes to mountain paths.

Cultural Immersion

Our museums and cultural venues are particularly active this season.

Rethymno invites you to experience a season filled with creativity and cultural exploration. Visit the "Pro Femina: A Celebration of Women in Art" exhibit, running from November 15, 2024, to April 30, 2025, at the Contemporary Art Museum of Crete. This exhibition honors women's contributions to art, inspired by Carolyn Kizer’s poem Pro Femina. It features works from prominent Greek and international artists, delving into themes of identity, social roles, and the strength of feminine expression.

Don’t miss the "15 Traces of Rethymno" Contemporary Art Exhibition, an innovative journey showcasing the city's history and charm through diverse artistic interpretations. These events highlight Rethymno's vibrant cultural scene, making this fall the perfect time to immerse yourself in art and inspiration.

One not-to-miss event is the "Syn Habitation" exhibition, part of the 7th N.S. Art Festival. Opening on Friday, November 22nd, at 7:30 PM, this exhibition features the works of Art Group SYN, a collective of artists from Greece and Cyprus, including Vicky Kamenou, Despina Katzagiannaki, Savella Michael, Chrysoula Skepetzi, and Hurik Torosian. Special guest artists George and Kostis Kapelonis add their distinctive perspectives to the exhibition, which is curated under the theme "Threshold III." This thought-provoking show invites visitors to explore themes of connection, identity, and transformation in the contemporary world.

Connect with Local Life

Fall is when Rethymno reveals its most authentic self.

Join locals at traditional cafes as they discuss the day's events, or visit family-run tavernas serving farm-to-table dishes featuring autumn specialties like wild mushrooms and new olive oil.

The seasonal pace allows for genuine connections with residents eager to share their stories and traditions.

Olive Harvest Experience

Join local families in their olive groves, where you’ll learn hands-on, sustainable harvesting methods that have been carefully passed down for generations. From gathering olives by hand to seeing how they are pressed into liquid gold, you’ll follow the entire journey of olives—from tree to table.

Understand what makes Cretan olive oil world-famous for its exceptional quality and rich flavor, a staple of the Mediterranean diet.

This immersive experience is not just about olive oil—it's a celebration of Cretan culture, heritage, and the deep bond between the land and its people.

Perfect for food lovers, nature enthusiasts, and anyone curious about traditional ways of life.

Come taste, learn, and connect with Crete's legacy through its olive trees!

City of Rethymno

You are invited to travel to areas, which are perhaps still unknown to the majority, and which are sometimes remote, but always magical and magnificent throughout the seasons. We recommend our visitors to see our picturesque villages through the eyes of the soul, try the Cretan cuisine, our wine and “tsikoudia”, participate in our revelries and festivities, but most importantly get to know our soul, our hospitality, the safe, untouched interior of the region, the other Rethymno.
