Biowaste for a Sustainable Future

Rethymno's Green Initiative

The Municipality of Rethymno is taking steps to encourage people to separate their organic kitchen waste. They are doing this as part of the "Development of a source separation system for biowaste in the Municipality of Rethymno project. This project is part of the "Transport Infrastructure, Environment, and Sustainable Development 2014-2020" program.

The Municipality of Rethymno is committed to an open and inclusive dialogue with local businesses and its local residents.

To spread the word and raise awareness about the importance of sorting biowaste, the Municipality is organizing two information events.

The first event is on Monday, October 30, 2023, at 5:00 PM, at the House of Culture in the Old Town of Rethymno. It's mainly for big waste producers like hotels and restaurants. The goal is to inform and encourage them to take part in the biowaste sorting program. The project aims to motivate them to join the Municipality's effort to separate biowaste, reduce waste generation, and adopt more eco-friendly waste management practices.

The second event, also on Monday, October 30, 2023, but at 7:00 PM, at the House of Culture, is for everyone in Rethymno. Here, the Municipality will talk about waste management and recycling. They want citizens to understand the goals of the source sorting program, the benefits it brings, and how to follow best practices for reducing waste and managing biowaste.
