The  Contemporary Art Museum of Crete hosts a "Strong in Time" exhibition on Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 7 to 9 pm.

This exhibition features the works of two remarkable artists, Rena Papaspyrou and Aspa Stassinopoulou, curated by Maria Marangou.

Rena and Aspa, pioneers in the art scene since the 1960s-1970s, have continuously captivated audiences with their unique expressions.

Their artworks reflect personal truths and remain influential and powerful to this day.

The exhibition showcases a significant collection of works by both artists, generously supported by the Alpha Bank Art Collection. This collaboration honors the memory of collector Yannis Costopoulos and his sister Annie, who have been instrumental in supporting Greek cultural organizations and artists.

Rena Papaspyrou's work often involves transforming materials from old houses into new art forms. At the same time, Aspa Stassinopoulou's pieces range from classical beauty to political statements, addressing themes like police violence and dictatorship.

The exhibition runs until October 30, 2024, offering visitors a chance to immerse themselves in the artistic legacies of these two extraordinary women.

It is about the work of two women who declared their presence in art in the 1960s-1970s, without appeasing the public’s interest until
today.
They belong to the category of artists who have made their mark on art by establishing recognizable and powerful work, surprising not only
the public but also tourists from other countries.

City of Rethymno

You are invited to travel to areas, which are perhaps still unknown to the majority, and which are sometimes remote, but always magical and magnificent throughout the seasons. We recommend our visitors to see our picturesque villages through the eyes of the soul, try the Cretan cuisine, our wine and “tsikoudia”, participate in our revelries and festivities, but most importantly get to know our soul, our hospitality, the safe, untouched interior of the region, the other Rethymno.
