The exhibition features 30 photographers, each with one self-portrait photograph. Through their unique perspectives, they aim to send a creative message and express their authentic selves.

This is a great opportunity for locals and visitors to enjoy these personal artworks displayed in a central location during the  Cretan Diet Festival.

The exhibition opening will take place on Thursday, June 27th at 8:00 PM.

Exhibition Curator Manolis Karatarakis explains the significance of self-portraiture "While the 'selfie' captures a moment meant to share an idealized image, a self-portrait goes deeper. The artist uses introspection to reveal what lies beneath the surface appearance, as the writer Baudelaire described - 'to imagine and reveal what is hidden under the face.'"

City of Rethymno

You are invited to travel to areas, which are perhaps still unknown to the majority, and which are sometimes remote, but always magical and magnificent throughout the seasons. We recommend our visitors to see our picturesque villages through the eyes of the soul, try the Cretan cuisine, our wine and “tsikoudia”, participate in our revelries and festivities, but most importantly get to know our soul, our hospitality, the safe, untouched interior of the region, the other Rethymno.
