AFENTADES ATZENTA

Monday, September 9, 2024, at Mikrasiaton Square the Ensemble of "Nikton & Toxoton" Instruments of Crete presents "Good Evening Aphentades," a musical journey through the heart of Greek and Cretan musical heritage.

This special performance pays tribute to the legendary Nikos Xylouris, a charismatic figure whose angelic voice and masterful bow have left an indelible mark on Greek music.

The ensemble will bring to life a rich tapestry of songs by renowned Greek composers and from the Cretan musical tradition, many of which were first popularized by Xylouris himself.

The stage will come alive with an impressive gathering of one hundred musicians, singers, and choristers, all united in their passion for this timeless music.

The ensemble's motto goes, "We don't sing to stand out from the world, my brother, we sing to unite the world." This philosophy embodies the spirit of the evening, inviting the audience to join in and become part of this musical celebration.

Adding their exceptional talents to the performance are two distinguished soloists,  Menelaos Dayiadas and Vangelis Pytharoulis.

Their powerful voices will blend with the choir and orchestra, creating a truly unforgettable musical experience.

Join us at Mikrasiaton Square for an evening filled with beautiful music, community spirit, and the timeless charm of Cretan culture.

City of Rethymno

You are invited to travel to areas, which are perhaps still unknown to the majority, and which are sometimes remote, but always magical and magnificent throughout the seasons. We recommend our visitors to see our picturesque villages through the eyes of the soul, try the Cretan cuisine, our wine and “tsikoudia”, participate in our revelries and festivities, but most importantly get to know our soul, our hospitality, the safe, untouched interior of the region, the other Rethymno.
