Parade for October 28th - Rethymno Celebration
On October 28th at 11:00, there will be a parade in front of Rethymno’s Town Hall!
Schools, the Armed Forces, and local cultural groups will proudly march together.
This day, called “Ohi Day,” is a national holiday across Greece, so all shops, museums, and archaeological sites will be closed.
Every year on October 28th, Greece remembers the brave decision made in 1940 when the Greeks said “No” to Benito Mussolini, who wanted to bring Italian troops into Greece. This strong “No” symbolized courage and unity, making Greece a key ally of Great Britain in World War II.
The Greek Army’s strength and bravery became known worldwide, and Winston Churchill famously said, “Heroes fight like Greeks.”
Let’s celebrate the bravery and heroism of Greece together!
