In the Christmas spirit of offering, locals, as well as international groups, are getting on to the volunteering and cleanup mood, a step that brings us closer to waste management.
Department of Sanitation, Civil Protection along with “RethElondo”- local volunteer group- undertakes beach cleanup on its community activities during Christmas time as the first phase of actions.
The above-mentioned actions will be organized and implemented by the Departments of the Municipality of Rethymno, in collaboration with the Rethymno Regional Unit of Public Health and the Security Forces, in specific days and hours that will be announced.
Local and environmental initiatives are a perfect way to build a stronger community through volunteerism.
Covid-19 protocols will be followed for indoor and outdoor activities.
Additional environmental projects
Rethymno is the lead partner of PLASTECO initiative and is working to eventually reduce the volume of single-use pollution in the streets, and on our beaches. It is also preparing for more volunteering and raises awareness about plastic and other sources of harmful microplastic pollution washed up on Rethymno sandy beaches.
