Medphoto Festival 2019-2020

Archive: Between the Public and the Private

On Sunday, January 19th, there will be a tour of the Critical Archives IV: Documents main exhibition by its curators.

The tour is open to the public, pupils, students, photography students, local cultural organizations and anyone who is interested.
As part of its actions, MedPhoto continues public events, aimed at fostering a fruitful dialogue on contemporary social issues.
The main reflection and starting point of the exhibition are the ways in which visual archives of various kinds are produced, circulated, classified and stored, or reinterpreted and reproduced by individuals, communities, or institutions in different historical contexts. In this exhibition, works of art are "read" as visual evidence, correlated and re-archived, thereby testing their interpretative boundaries between the private and the public realms and highlighting the importance or importance that can be attributed to them as artistic production at any time, personal history or social testimony.

The exhibition features works by: Andrea & Magda, Alexis Vassilikou, Tommaso Bonaventura & Alessandro Imbriaco, Joachim Brohm, Lorenzo Castore, Harri Grigoraki, Alvaro Deprit, Forensic Architecture, Johan Grimonprez, Galatia Iatraki, Maria Karkanakis, Maria Karkanaki, Maria Karchanaki, Kokkinia, Kostas Mitropoulos, Dimitris Michalakis, Richard Mosse, Vasilis Balaskas, Laura Pannack, Max Pinckers, Georgia Ponirakos, Dimitris Sidirokastritis, Alec Soth, Marilena Stafylidou, Yiannis Stefanidis, DimitriosThe exhibition features works by: Andrea & Magda, Alexis Vassilikou, Tommaso Bonaventura & Alessandro Imbriaco, Joachim Brohm, Lorenzo Castore, Harri Grigoraki, Alvaro Deprit, Forensic Architecture, Johan Grimonprez, Galatia Iatraki, Maria Karkanakis, Maria Karkanaki, Maria Karchanaki, Kokkinia, Kostas Mitropoulos, Dimitris Michalakis, Richard Mosse, Vasilis Balaskas, Laura Pannack, Max Pinckers, Georgia Ponirakos, Dimitris Sidirokastritis, Alec Soth, Marilena Stafylidou, Yiannis Stefanidis, Dimitrios

City of Rethymno

You are invited to travel to areas, which are perhaps still unknown to the majority, and which are sometimes remote, but always magical and magnificent throughout the seasons. We recommend our visitors to see our picturesque villages through the eyes of the soul, try the Cretan cuisine, our wine and “tsikoudia”, participate in our revelries and festivities, but most importantly get to know our soul, our hospitality, the safe, untouched interior of the region, the other Rethymno.
