Tourism for Inclusive Growth

World Tourism Day meaning is to encourage destinations to take advantage of the tourism sector's dynamism which has been praised for its capability to stimulate economic growth and create jobs by attracting investment and fostering entrepreneurship. Tourism can also contribute towards preserving ecosystems and biodiversity, protecting cultural heritage, and promoting empowerment of local communities.
On the occasion of World Tourism Day 2021, Rethymno, its businesses, public and private organizations, and individuals celebrate tourism’s unique ability to ensure that nobody is left behind as the world begins to open up again and look to the future.
Green, responsible and eco-friendly tourism is dedicated to the collaboration between visitors and destinations and emphasizes that sustainability has to be the link between the present and the future for everybody without any restrictions.

City of Rethymno

You are invited to travel to areas, which are perhaps still unknown to the majority, and which are sometimes remote, but always magical and magnificent throughout the seasons. We recommend our visitors to see our picturesque villages through the eyes of the soul, try the Cretan cuisine, our wine and “tsikoudia”, participate in our revelries and festivities, but most importantly get to know our soul, our hospitality, the safe, untouched interior of the region, the other Rethymno.
