Woman through the lens of photographers
Woman through the " lens " of photographers participating in the exhibition at the Rethymno Municipal Garden
Photography exhibition, until June 10.
A beautiful scene that strikes those who are walking around the city centre, on the exterior of the Municipal Garden, is created by the photographs presented in the framework of the photography exhibition on the theme "Woman".
The thematic of the exhibition, which is Woman, 'describes' through the dynamic photographs the complexity of the modern life of women, with its multiple and at the same time equally demanding roles.
During the 70’s, publications on the relationship between Feminism and Art opened up new perspectives, on issues concerning the life of the Woman and her sexuality, and as a result, fascinated the world of Art. Innumerable artists throughout the period – which we have perhaps hastily named Postmodernism – have created works that aimed at the complexity and the many shades of woman’s reality.
Artists explore the ways in which women are often restricted to stereotypes or objectified. They discuss issues on sexuality and existentialism in the public and private aspects of life.
Most important the following photographs celebrate the strength, the diversity of women, showing the many different ways they leave their imprint on History.
Works are exhibited by:
