European Music Day 2024 - Concert

On  June 21st, there will be a special concert in Rethymno to celebrate  European Music Day.

The Rethymno  Municipal Philharmonic Orchestra  will perform the concert. It will take place at Metropolis Square  starting at 9 PM.

Every year, the Municipality of Rethymno organizes an event for music lovers to celebrate European Music Day. Music Day was first celebrated on June 21, 1982 in the city of Paris. The goal was to have musicians perform out in the streets.

In 1985, Athens became the first city outside of France to host a European Music Day concert when it was the European Capital of Culture that year.

After ten years, the music celebrations spread to many other European countries. Now, European Music Day is a major event with over 25,000 free music performances of all genres happening across Europe each year. Both amateur and professional musicians perform in public spaces and halls.

This year in Rethymno, the Philharmonic Orchestra concert is free for everyone to attend. The rhythms and melodies will fill the square, making June the month of music.
