Photography Exhibition scenes from the filming of the movie - Captain Michalis: Nikos Kazantzakis
Photography Exhibition: "Nikos Kazantzakis: Captain Michalis"
The Region of Crete and Hellenic Artistic Photography are organizing a special photography exhibition at the House of Culture in Rethymno.
The theme focuses on "Nikos Kazantzakis: Captain Michael."
The exhibition will run from Wednesday, May 15, 2024, to June 7, 2024. You can visit daily from 9 am to 2 pm and 6 pm to 9 pm.
Through these photographs, the exhibition takes you back to the era depicted in Kazantzakis' famous novel Captain Michael. You'll get a glimpse into the situation on Crete at that time and the efforts of a few "Kusuli" (rebels) fighting to free the island from Turkish rule.
Nikos Kazantzakis was a great Greek writer, journalist, novelist, poet, and philosopher, renowned worldwide as one of the most important modern Greek writers and most translated authors globally.
By capturing scenes from the filming of the movie (entirely shot on Crete), the photographers aim to recreate the atmosphere of that historical period. Their images convey the anguish and love of those who fought for Crete's freedom in any way they could.
Don't miss this compelling exhibition offering a visual journey into Kazantzakis' powerful tale of resistance and the quest for Cretan independence through the lens of photography.
