This event, as a part of the year-long celebrations and promotions to celebrate wine and gastronomy, aims to highlight the high-end quality wine that Rethymno can offer and give prominence to the remarkable distinction of Rethymno as European Wine City 2018. The official kick-off began with an event on June 30 at Fortezza Fortress with a dynamic start followed by a week full of wine and local delicacies' exhibitions, accompanied by music and a variety of cultural events during the Cretan Diet Festival.
The 2 hour-long session that took place from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm , aspired to engage participants, by providing them with information about the new and old wine labels and new varieties, enhancing the Cretan wines and possibilities of enchasing their recognition during this special gastronomic experience , and was accompanied with delicious cheese and smoked meat offered by local producers . Learning about wine in a relaxed and fun environment from 22 different wine producers and experts on the area, suitable for everyone from the absolute beginner through to the wine enthusiasts, made the event even more special in a full Wine Tasting Experience Day.
The old viticultural history of the island with the new modern face and technology of the winemaking industry seems to be a very promising alternative for wine lovers that waits to be discovered. Rethymno seems to have an aspiring future in the winemaking industry with the vivid participation of local producers in such events, showing that they know to do the best and transmit their love for Cretan Wine to the public.
