Armeni New Olive Press Museum

Armeni's Olive Heritage at the New Olive Press Museum!

The village of Armeni unveil its latest cultural attraction - the Old Olive Press Museum.

The historic olive press holds great symbolic importance for Armeni. Its restoration celebrates the village's rich heritage and capitalizes on its prime location near the rapidly developing area around Rethymno and the ancient Armeni Late Minoan cemetery site.

This innovative project is part of the Municipality of Rethymno's mission to drive multi-faceted development across its settlements and the broader region. Funds were provided through the Interreg V-A "Greece-Cyprus 2014-2020" cooperation program, specifically the "Accessible Nature and Culture - Sustainable Tourism / In-Heritage" initiative.

The core aim is to improve accessibility to selected natural and cultural sites for people with disabilities while promoting these attractions and developing strategies for inclusive,  sustainable tourism for all.

With its new life as a museum, the Old Olive Press of Armeni will share the village's olive oil heritage with visitors in an engaging, accessible environment. Cultural events and exhibits will breathe new life into this historic structure.

City of Rethymno

You are invited to travel to areas, which are perhaps still unknown to the majority, and which are sometimes remote, but always magical and magnificent throughout the seasons. We recommend our visitors to see our picturesque villages through the eyes of the soul, try the Cretan cuisine, our wine and “tsikoudia”, participate in our revelries and festivities, but most importantly get to know our soul, our hospitality, the safe, untouched interior of the region, the other Rethymno.
